Storm Ali hits Hilltown!

19th Sep 2018

Wednesday 19th September 2018:

In spite of weather forecasts on TV and met office warnings we were all slightly surprised at the ferocity of storm Ali as it hit Hilltown and our school between the hours of 9.30am and1pm.  It was certainly a mighty wind!

Firstly, the children were almost blown away as we made out way to and from our celebratory mass for the opening of the school year. (We seem to have a penchant for choosing stormy days to bring the children to mass- not deliberately, of course).

Next, the electricity went off.  Thankfully Michelle and our marvellous kitchen staff were on the ball and had the dinners already prepared so it was an early lunch and back to class for a long afternoon!

Finally, we noticed that the spouting, porch and then the roof of the old mobile were all lifting in the ferocious winds!

Then, bits of the fabric of the mobile began to fly away!!

It was very exciting for the children but very sad to see how much damage could happen in such a short space of time.

The end result is that the mobile needs a new roof, new porch, new door and new spouting!

The Education Authority will carry out emergency repairs.  This definitely is an emergency!!!
