P3&4 Celebrate Catholic Schools Week & St. Brigid

3rd Feb 2023

The boys and girls of P3 and 4 explained to the rest of the school, to guardians/parents and grandparents about the importance and significance of being taught in a Catholic school. The prayers, morals and values that come from a Catholic education will stand by them as they develop and grow. The theme this year of catholic school is speak.

The boys and girls told everyone at assembly about Saint Bridgid and her significance here in Ireland as one of our national Saints. They told the well-known story of her cloak growing. Her feast day is 1st February. The distinctive cross design, made from woven rushes, is thought to keep evil, fire and hunger from the homes in which it is displayed. Mrs O’Hare brought in rushes as did our P3 pupil Joe who also gathered rushes from his field. Mrs O’Hare showed everyone how to make a Saint Brigid’s cross and the boys and girls tried to make the crosses themselves. It is a very difficult thing to do at this age but the effort was fantastic and great efforts were made.
