🐝🐝Buzzy Bees🐝🐝

16th Jun 2022

Now that we are at the beginning of summer, many bees are very active with the warmer weather and flowering of plants. Mrs Hynes our classroom assistant very kindly told Room 3 all about bees.

The children were shown a beekeeper’s suit, a smoker, a small beehive and some frames.

The children learned about the different types of bees which range from the Queen bee, to the worker bees and the undertaker bees.

They also learned about how bees communicate flower location using special dances inside the hive.  One bee dances, while other bees watch to learn the directions to a specific flower patch.  The dancing bee smells like the flower patch. This dance is known as the ‘Bee Waggle Dance’.

The children then got to taste some yummy ‘Hiiltown Honey’.
