Nature Watching Right Outside Our Classroom
We are very lucky to have a bird box just outside our classroom, and it has given us a wonderful opportunity to observe nature up close. Over the past few weeks, we have been excited to watch blue tits flying in and out of the box, busy feeding their hungry chicks. It has been fascinating to see how hardworking the parent birds are as they care for their young!
This real-life experience inspired us in the classroom too. We created some beautiful drawings of blue tits, paying close attention to their bright colours and features. The children showed great creativity and observation skills in their artwork.
As part of our literacy learning, we have also been developing our comprehension skills. During a shared reading session, we explored a text about blue tits and focused on identifying the difference between fact and opinion. The children did a fantastic job of discussing the text and deciding which statements were true facts (something that can be proven) and which were opinions (what someone thinks or feels).
It has been wonderful to combine our outdoor observations with our classroom learning, helping the children deepen their understanding in a meaningful and engaging way. Well done everyone!
