Bambinelli Sunday in Hilltown

12th Dec 2022

Thank you to Father Byrne and Deacon Jerry for the lovely mass, to the parents, grandparents and children for attending the special 'Bambinelli Sunday' mass. It was lovely to see so many of our children and their families attend. The children were involved in the mass by reading, singing and bringing up the gifts, as well as coming forward for the blessing of the baby Jesus the children brought from their crib at home.

As Deacon Jerry explained the blessing if the Bambinelli (baby Jesus) is a tradition which began in Rome. Each year on the third Sunday of Advent the children are invited to bring the baby Jesus from their family crib to mass for a blessing. After the blessing the children are invited to wrap up their baby Jesus and place it under their Christmas tree. On Christmas morning the Bambinelli  is the first Christmas present to be unwrapped and placed in the family crib. We hope to continue to see our families attend mass each Sunday.

We are proud to have our crib up in our classes and school foyer, along with the advent wreath.
