P5 wrapped up our Viking topic in style by staging our very own Viking raid and PE games today!
As part of our topic on Vikings, the children explored the idea of reusing and repurposing materials, just as people would have done in Viking times. Primary 5 were taught about how Vikings were known for being resourceful; they repaired, reused and adapted items because materials were precious. Nothing was wasted!
Inspired by this, the children collected tinfoil, cardboard boxes and bottle caps, turning everyday recyclables into fantastic pieces of Viking-themed art. Using their collected materials, they designed and created their own Viking shields and swords, carefully thinking about shape, patterns and how real Viking tools and weapons would have been used and decorated.
